  • Carolyn Pickles retraces the true story of how 11 people came to be brutally cut with a deadly sharp implement, in a spate of attacks that left a town in a state of fear and police mystified about the identity of the attacker.

    Halifax, West Yorkshire, 1938. The hunt is on for a razor-wielding attacker, possibly a murderer. The papers name him 'The Halifax Slasher'. A huge reward is offered for leads to his arrest. Vigilante groups form, and innocent men are set upon. Baffled, police argue with each other about how to catch the suspect.

    This real-life whodunnit is told in the voices of victims, police officers, newspapers, townsfolk and historians.

Fun and informative listen

Thoroughly enjoyed the narration and the story as it developed. I was not completely surprised by the ending. Worth the listen.

Gripping and well-produced!

I rarely leave comments, but the Halifax Slasher was worth doing so! As a big consumer of true crime, this series was exceptionally produced and included great historical perspective. Carolyn Pickles was an fantastic narrator with local connection to the area involved. All of the acting voices were super engaging. It was also great to have the story conclue with a significant of tie-ins to current day issues around mental health issues and the psychology of mass panics. 5/5 all the way around!

Strange Mystery

Surely one of the strangest true crime stories that ever took place. Thoroughly enjoyed this production, probably more so because I am from that neck of the woods.

Narrated by authentic readers and well done. enjoyed it very much. looking forward to the restoration of the story.

Just okay

Odd that the story essentially exposes (some may say exploits) a serious issue (no spoiler), yet there aren't any of the typical contacts for resources attached. The dramatizations were annoying at first, but became less so later. But ultimately, the story doesn't really support the kind coverage this series provided.
