Story
Most people have heard of the Celts - the elusive, ancient tribal people who resided in present-day England, Ireland, Scotland and France. Paradoxically characterized as both barbaric and innocent, the Celts appeal to the modern world as a symbol of a bygone era, a world destroyed by the ambition of empire and the spread of Christianity throughout Western Europe. Despite the pervasive cultural and literary influence of the Celts, shockingly little is known of their way of life and beliefs, because very few records of their stories exist.

Lyrically translated and beautifully narrated by an all-star cast, these 21 tales are selected from The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales and presented just as Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm originally set them down: bold, primal, just frightening enough, and endlessly engaging.

Story
The Prose Edda and the Poetic Edda are our oldest written sources for Norse mythology. When it comes to the norse myths, they are the closest thing we have to listening these stories as the vikings actually told them, around those ancient campfires so long ago. It is my hope that you will enjoy this collection, and that the two books will work in tandem to broaden and deepen your appreciation for these epic and mystical stories, and the enigmatic culture that spawned them.

Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.

Story
The mysticism and fairy folklore of Celtic England, Scotland, the Isle of Man, Brittany, and Wales is explored in this production, which focuses on interviews conducted with everyday citizens about their beliefs, sightings, and encounters in the early 20th century, followed by an anthropological examination of evidence. It is an exploration of the spirit world, of the Sidhe, the "good people", who are claimed to interact mischievously with the populace - sometimes even abducting them and leaving only the victims' clothes behind, transporting them far distances, and killing livestock.

Story
When Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm published their Children's and Household Tales in 1812, followed by a second volume in 1815, they had no idea that such stories as "Rapunzel", "Hansel and Gretel", and "Cinderella" would become the most celebrated in the world. Yet few people today are familiar with the majority of tales from the two early volumes, since in the next four decades the Grimms would publish six other editions, each extensively revised in content and style.

Story
The subject of fairies in Celtic cultures is a complex one that seems to endlessly intrigue people. What exactly are fairies? What can they do? How can we interact with them? Answering these questions becomes even harder in a world that is disconnected from the traditional folklore and flooded with modern sources that are often vastly at odds with the older beliefs.

Story
The Sumerians are widely regarded as the first people to develop civilization in the sense that modern humans understand the term. They were pioneers in a variety of fields, including language, government, architecture, and more. Before the Babylonians took control in 2004 BC, they ruled the region for close to 2,000 years, during which time they were successful in maintaining their dominance.

Publisher's summary
Great collection of the timeless myths and fairy tales of the Celts by Joseph Jacobs
The annotations includes:
- Author biography of Joseph Jacobs
- The history of the Celts
Celtic mythology is widely considered to be among the most captivating of Europe's various mythologies due to the presence of a number of captivating aspects, including but not limited to: adventure, heroism, romance, and magic.
The Celts were once a great people who dominated most of Europe, but, as a result of Roman invasions, they have since been reduced to a few minor groupings. Their mythology, on the other hand, was preserved largely as a result of the efforts of later monks from Ireland and Wales who wrote down the stories.
The ancient Celts were a group of people with central European origins who had a common culture, language, and worldview. The Celts moved around over time. They established businesses all over Europe, from Britain and Spain to Turkey and Ireland.
It is unclear how race, language, and culture are related in the Celtic realm, and there is disagreement about what terms should be used to describe the Iron Age inhabitants of Britain and Ireland. The term "Celt" no longer generally refers to a particular ethnic group, but rather to "speakers of Celtic languages" in academic circles.
This mystery surrounding the Celts make their Fairy tales and myths even more interesting and sought after, especially the ancient long forgotten ones in this tile which have been selected by Joseph Jacobs.
Here Are Some of The Myths Inside:
- I. Connla and the Fairy Maiden
- II. Guleesh
- III. The Field of Boliauns
- IV. The Horned Women
- V. Conal Yellowclaw

About the Author:
Australian folklorist, literary critic, social scientist, historian, and writer of English literature Joseph Jacobs (29 August 1854 – 30 January 1916) also became a well-known collector and publisher of English folklore.
Jacobs was born into a Jewish household in Sydney. Some of the most well-known translations of English fairy tales, such as "Jack and the Beanstalk", "Goldilocks and the Three Bears", "The Three Little Pigs", "Jack the Giant Killer", and "The History of Tom Thumb" were made famous by his work.
He was named a member of the board of seven editors in 1908 who worked on the Jewish Publication Society of America's new English translation of the Bible

One of the best-known collections of W. B. Yeats' prose, The Celtic Twilight explores the old connection between the Irish people and the magical world of fairies. Yeats, by traveling the land in the early 20th century and talking to the common people about their experiences with the creatures, yielded a colorful overview of Celtic fairy folklore.

Story
Celtic mythology, Arthurian romance, and an intriguing interpretation of British history - these are just some of the themes embraced by the anonymous authors of the eleven tales that make up the Welsh medieval masterpiece known as The Mabinogion. They tell of Gwydion the shape-shifter, who can create a woman out of flowers; of Math the magician whose feet must lie in the lap of a virgin; of hanging a pregnant mouse and hunting a magical boar.

The grandfather of Queen Elizabeth II, King George V reigned over the British Empire from 1910 to 1936, a period of unprecedented international turbulence. Relive the magic of captivating legends and folktales in this rich collection on Celtic Mythology. In 58 BCE, when Julius Caesar – the famous Roman general – wrote a commentary on the Gallic wars, he described the “Celt” speaking people who lived in the area then known as the Gaul. These people had their own culture, gods, and beliefs – called Celtic Mythology – which were very different from the Romans. The influence of this mythology, however, was not limited to a small territory.

In this sweeping, deeply researched book, Paul Thomas Chamberlin boldly argues that the Cold War, long viewed as a mostly peaceful, if tense, diplomatic standoff between democracy and communism, was actually a part of a vast, deadly conflict that killed millions on battlegrounds across the postcolonial world. For half a century, as an uneasy peace hung over Europe, ferocious proxy wars raged in the Cold War’s killing fields, resulting in more than 14 million dead - victims who remain largely forgotten and all but lost to history.

So many tales I have never heard before. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. This is a great collection of folklore and I hope many more people will listen to it.

Interesting, well-told stories
Celtic mythology seems familiar but listening to this book I discovered that I knew very little about it. It was fun hearing new tales and learning about new gods. There is a good selection of stories here and the narration is very well done.

Fun Stories to Enjoy
I enjoyed listening to collection of Celtic tales. I listened to other collections in this series and so far this is my favorite. I liked stories featuring princesses, fairy maidens, witches and other mystical creatures, they are full of humor, wit and twists. Narrator did a good job telling all the stories, and giving voices to various characters. Overall this was fun listening experience.

Traditional Celtic Folk Stories
I enjoyed these stories, many of which have been adopted into modern children's stories. There are plenty of kings and fairies and clever heroes and, of course, lots of stories of iconic heroes like Finn and Conal.
At over 10 hours, this is a LOT of Celtic lore but the stories range from tragic to comic and they never cease to be entertaining.
Worth a listen for anyone with an interest in the mythical history of the British Isles.

Celtic Mythology
This is the third collection from this series that I have listened to, and it has the quality that I have come to expect from them. The content is interesting and well presented. The audio is decent quality, and the narration is solid. Overall, I had an enjoyable experience listening to this book.
I received a free Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
