Story
Careers are not linear, predictable ladders any longer; they are fluid trajectories. No matter our age, life stage, bank account balance, or seniority, we are all being asked to navigate career changes much more frequently than in years past. The average employee tenure in America is just four to five years, and even those roles change dramatically within that time. Our economy now demands that we create businesses and careers based on creativity, growth, and impact. In this dynamic world of work, the only move that matters is your next one.

Story
We live in a world that’s obsessed with talent. We celebrate gifted students in school, natural athletes in sports, and child prodigies in music. But admiring people who start out with innate advantages leads us to overlook the distance we ourselves can travel. We underestimate the range of skills that we can learn and how good we can become. We can all improve at improving. And when opportunity doesn’t knock, there are ways to build a door.

Same as Ever reverses the process, inviting us to identify the many things that never, ever change. With his usual elan, Morgan Housel presents a master class on optimizing risk, seizing opportunity, and living your best life. Through a sequence of engaging stories and pithy examples, he shows how we can use our newfound grasp of the unchanging to see around corners.

Yet, rather than feeling empowered, we are often left feeling overwhelmed by this constant influx of information. Farnoosh Torabi is familiar with fear. Growing up in the 1980s as the daughter of Iranian immigrants, she was warned to proceed with caution and play it safe. She spent her childhood immersed in fear—of rejection, loneliness, missed opportunities, and falling short of her potential. But Farnoosh came to the realization that fear never limited her. Instead, it has become a friend. Now, Farnoosh pairs stories from her immigrant upbringing with hard-won industry knowledge and data to show how leaning into your fears can help you take control of your financial future.

Adapted from a popular column originally published as "San Francisco's Spiritual Examiner" at examiner.com. "What if God IS the story? What if the Divine is constantly igniting roadside flares to get our attention? What if there actually IS a Supreme Organizing Principle with a ribald and unbridled sense of humor? And what if we each have this ardent inner suitor who's writing us love letters every day that often go unopened?"

Over the past decade, Inbound Marketing has changed the way companies earn buyers’ trust and build their brands - through meaningful, helpful content. But with that change comes unprecedented access to information in a few quick keystrokes. Enter the age of the empowered buyer, one who no longer has to rely on a sales rep to research their challenges or learn more about how a company’s offering might fit their needs. Now, with more than 60 percent of purchasing decisions made in the absence of a sales rep, the role of the rep itself has been called into question.

As high achievers, we’ve been conditioned to believe that the path to success is paved with relentless work. That if we want to overachieve, we have to overexert, overthink, and overdo. That if we aren’t perpetually exhausted, we’re not doing enough. But lately, working hard is more exhausting than ever. And the more depleted we get, the more effort it takes to make progress. Stuck in an endless loop of “Zoom, eat, sleep, repeat”, we’re often working twice as hard to achieve half as much.

Excellent Strategies
I bought this after hearing the author's excellent interview with Cal Newport. These great strategies are a nice alternative to the "hustle hustle hustle" burnout culture that seems to be pushed so heavily in other circles. She delivers very practical advice with actionable steps for those that value wealth first in terms of time, freedom, and energy.
My only *very* minor improvements I would recommend are these: 1) The book is read with such an unnatural level of positivity that the author's genuineness feels lost (compared to her interview with Cal Newport which is included at the end of the audiobook and is very natural in comparison). 2) There were a couple of odd digressions, like a mini-lesson on woke-ish "privilege", which just seemed out of place in this book.
Overall an excellent book. Highly recommend.

Useless if you have any organizational skills
Let me save you 10 hours of your life.
If you have ever had the idea to keep track of things on paper or an app instead of in your mind, you won't need this book. This is one of several 'big' revelations in this milking-the-cow piece of content.
Also, it's peculiar that in most cases where the author shares a success story, it's about a fellow coach or speaker.
I'm returning this.
