Even though Nate was a great peewee football player in football-mad Ohio, he followed his father's passion for rugby and started playing for the same club as his father when he was only 13 years old. But Nate had to face the fact that there was no way to make a living as a professional rugby player in this country. So Nate gave his dad the news that he planned to quit rugby and go out for the football team at Ohio State University, with an eye toward making the NFL.

A beloved character in NFL history, Bum taught Wade from the beginning that "coaching isn't bitching", as well as how to have perspective on the game during tough times. These are lessons that apply both on the field and off, and Wade has passed this wisdom down to his son, Wes Phillips, an NFL coach himself.

Each player and coach arrived at that point with a unique story to tell. In The Last Great Game, ESPN columnist Gene Wojciechowski turns the game we think we remember into a drama filled with suspense, humor, revelations, and reverberations.

Scottie Pippen has been called one of the greatest NBA players for good reason. Simply put, without Pippen, there are no championship banners - let alone six - hanging from the United Center rafters. There’s no Last Dance documentary. There’s no “Michael Jordan” as we know him. The 1990s Chicago Bulls teams would not exist as we know them. So how did the youngest of 12 go from growing up poor in the small town of Hamburg, Arkansas, enduring two family tragedies along the way, to become a revered NBA legend?

Three days before the 1969 Super Bowl, Joe Namath promised the nation that he would lead the New York Jets to an 18-point underdog victory against the seemingly invincible Baltimore Colts. When the final whistle blew, that promise had been kept. Namath was instantly heralded as a gridiron god, while his rugged good looks, progressive views on race, and boyish charm quickly transformed him - in an era of raucous rebellion, shifting social norms, and political upheaval - into both a bona fide celebrity and a symbol of the commercialization of pro sports.

Critic reviews
"It was a smart choice to use a pair of narrators, James Shippy and Marc Samuel, for this joint memoir by twin brothers. Shaquem and Shaquill Griffin played youth sports together and vowed to do the same with college football. Now they both play for the Seattle Seahawks. The two narrators create individual identities for the brothers while keeping their dialogue straight for the listener. Both narrators do a fine job, especially with enunciating clearly. The story focuses often on Shaquem, who is an amputee; he is without his left hand because he was born with amniotic band syndrome. Shippy and Samuel provide energetic and gregarious portrayals of two young men who don't let anything get in the way of their achievements. (AudioFile magazine)

Born to one of Verona's leading families, Catullus spent most of his young adulthood in Rome, mingling with the likes of Caesar and Cicero and chronicling his life through his poetry. Famed for his lyrical and subversive voice, his poems about his friends were jocular, often obscenely funny, while those who crossed him found themselves skewered in raunchy verse, sudden objects of hilarity and ridicule. These bawdy poems were disseminated widely throughout Rome.

Inspiring
This story of determination, perseverance, commitment, family, and unbreakable needs to be heard by all. I am a huge fan of these brothers and the Seahawks, but after this book, the Griffin Brothers have become my hero. Their memories growing up planning ball, the impact of their mom & dad involvement, and how they each handled college coaches and triumphs is so inspiring. Great story and what an amazing family!
