Story
The Gardener Estate is one of the most storied and beloved places on the West Coast: a magnificent house in vast formal grounds, home to a family that shaped California—and fought hard to conceal the turmoil and eccentricities within their walls. And now, just as the turmoil seems buried and the Estate prepares to move into a new future, construction work unearths a grim relic of the estate's history: a skull, hidden away some fifty years ago.

Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Surêté du Québec and his team of investigators are called in to the scene of a suspicious death in a rural village south of Montreal. Jane Neal, a local fixture in the tiny hamlet of Three Pines, just north of the U.S. border, has been found dead in the woods. Maisie Dobbs got her start as a maid in an aristocratic London household when she was thirteen. Her employer, suffragette Lady Rowan Compton, soon became her patron, taking the remarkably bright youngster under her wing. Lady Rowan’s friend, Maurice Blanche, often retained as an investigator by the European elite, recognized Maisie’s intuitive gifts. The outbreak of war changed everything. Ten years after the Armistice, in the spring of 1929, Maisie sets out on her own as a private investigator, one who has learned that coincidences are meaningful, and truth elusive.

Story
It was 1970 in a defeated Rhode Island fishing town. Vietnam and Nixon dominated the national news. Both the near and distant future looked bleak. But they were five inseparable high school friends with something incredible in common: an unwavering resolve to look after each other no matter what hell life threw at them. And they were on a mission. The plan was simple: Go off the grid before they turned 18 to avoid the draft. They’d sell some grass, stack some cash, then head west and start a commune. What could possibly go wrong?

Story
Buckhead isn’t a place you live, it’s a place you survive. And that applies even to the wealthy housewives that have it all. Fancy cars, designer clothes, and daily salon appointments aren’t nearly enough to keep them fulfilled and happy. Because in this town, privilege and opulence go hand in hand with betrayal and revenge. Jenny, the owner of Glow, an exclusive membership-only beauty salon, knows that better than anyone, because she knows everything about these housewives—down to each individual strand of hair.

I love Mary Russell
Mary Russell is an exciting young woman who also takes her studies very seriously. She takes us on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land like none other. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a resourceful woman lead character. This book would be a great Mother/Daughter read. Mary at times feels awkward, has to hide who she really is, never says no to a difficult task and impresses the men in the tale with her knife-throwing skills. She is a good role model for today.

Another Excellent Choice
This, like the previous books of the series, is an excellent choice in audio books. The narrarator is highly expressive and seems to have an fine sense of the characters. The series in general is written discriptively, and for some may seem slow, but I have found them to be captivating. I highly recommend this series.

This audio series just keeps getting better
My review of the first book highlighted the great story and slightly flawed recording; because the stories are so good, I kept with them, and I am so glad I have. The narration keeps getting better, and the stories themselves do too. I recommend for anyone who enjoys the Mary Russell series or Holmes fans that aren't strict about canon.
