Resumen del Editor

A spellbinding romantic fantasy about a powerful witch who will do anything to escape the remote island she’s being held captive on, including blackmail a notorious, charming pirate who washes up on shore, from debut author Angela Montoya.

Rosalinda is trapped on Sinner’s Isle, an island filled with young women like her—Majestics, beautiful witches loathed by society for their dangerous magic yet revered by powerful men who want to use them.

For years, she has been kept under the watchful, calculating eye of Doña Lucia. Now eighteen, Rosa will be the prized commodity at this year’s Offering, a fiesta for the wealthy to engage in drink, damsels, and debauchery. That is why she must flee—before someone forces the vicious phantoms within her to destroy everything she touches.

Handsome, swashbuckling Mariano has long sailed the high seas as the Prince of Pirates. Then the king’s fleet attacks his father’s infamous ship, leaving him marooned on Sinner’s Isle with only an enchanted chain meant to lead him to his heart’s desire. Instead, he falls into the hands of a brazen (although) bewitching headache—Rosa.

Together they must outwit each other and their enemies before the Offering ends and it’s too late to escape the perils of Sinner’s Isle.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Ana Osoria lends her wispy, elegant narration to this romantic adventure.... Osoria's delicate voice offers the right quality for scenes involving magic and tender romance. Though Rosalinda and Mariano are depicted with strong and compatible personalities, the crowning moments of the narration are the rich world-building and daring action sequences." (AudioFile)

"Montoya weaves elements of Mexican Folklore and magic into an intriguing tale that will make willing captives of its audience." —Booklist

★ "Montoya skillfully steeps this meticulously built mythical world in Latin American folklore and amorous atmosphere, making for a hopeful and deeply romantic adventure following one courageous girl’s fight to choose her own path." —Publishers Weekly, starred review

“Montoya sets a brisk, thrilling pace and breathes life into a rich fantasy filled with side characters as deep and lovable as its leads. [A] romantic, swashbuckling adventure perfect for fans of Leigh Bardugo.” —The Bulletin

Pulled in like a ship to harbor

As someone who doesn’t usually enjoy young adult, I throughly enjoyed this book.

A story full of magic, pirates and strong characters.

There were times that this midwestern mom could feel the phantoms racing through her own veins and taste the briny call of the sea.

It was only when she pulled out her airpods hearing the roar of leaf blowers not the sea, she realized she was in Ohio hauling leaves to the fire to be burned.

Audio version on Audible
As an avid reader in all formats, the narrator of an audiobook can kill the mood. This narrator did not.
The story was flawlessly read aloud.

I would LOVE to hear this book with a full cast complete with swords clanging, hoisting of the sails and crashing of the angry sea.

No matter what format you are considering BUY THIS BOOK.

What a great story!!

I loved the story! The characters were great, even side characters were fleshed out and active in their own lives. It felt like everyone had agency, not just the main character. The writing was great, the narrator did a great job, and the story itself was addicting 😊
