But before she can make her decision, she must start her story - their story - at the very beginning. Lucy and Gabe meet as seniors at Columbia University on a day that changes both of their lives forever. Together, they decide they want their lives to mean something, to matter. When they meet again a year later, it seems fated - perhaps they'll find life's meaning in each other.

It is a perfect July morning, and Elle, a 50-year-old happily married mother of three, awakens at “The Paper Palace” - the family summer place she has visited every summer of her life. But this morning is different: Last night, Elle and her oldest friend, Jonas, crept out the back door into the darkness and had sex with each other for the first time, all while their spouses chatted away inside. Story
Talk of impending war is a steady drumbeat throughout North Carolina, though Joetta McBride pays it little heed. She and her husband, Ennis, have built a modest but happy life for themselves, raising two sons, fifteen-year-old Henry, and eleven-year-old Robert, on their small subsistence farm. They do not support the Confederacy's position on slavery, but Joetta considers her family to be neutral, believing this is simply not their fight. Her opinion is not favored by many in their community, including Joetta's own father-in-law, Rudean.

Mother/daughter relationships can be difficult but there is always love.
Loved this book so much! Wish I’d read it sooner! A mother and daughter relationship is like no other. I laughed, cried and shook my head in agreement because it felt so familiar. It touched my heart! Please write more!

A mother daughter story left unsaid
A journey. Of all things we speak in our heads. A true look at seeing your mom for who she is and letting your daughter be an adult. It’s finding peace in madness, and sadness. I loved the authentic notes of conversations, some we can have others we cannot.

Mothers & Daughters & Never Enough Time
A very beautiful story with so much truth. I’m a Mother and a Daughter and the voices contained in this story spoke to me from both places. I laughed and I cried. I’m thankful for my memories. I’ve learned from them all. Thank you for sharing some of yours and reminding me of the power of words.
