Story
Talking about death and dying is considered taboo in polite company, and even in the medical field. Our ideas about dying are confusing at best: Will our memories flash before our eyes? Regrets consume our thoughts? Does a bright light appear at the end of a tunnel? For most people, it will be a slower process, one eased with preparedness, good humor, and a bit of faith. At the forefront of changing attitudes around palliative care is hospice nurse Hadley Vlahos, who shows that end-of-life care can teach us just as much about how to live as it does about how we die.

Story
There is nothing more essential to our health and well-being than breathing. Yet, as a species, humans have lost the ability to breathe correctly, with grave consequences. Journalist James Nestor travels the world to figure out what went wrong and how to fix it. The answers aren’t found in pulmonology labs, as we might expect, but in the muddy digs of ancient burial sites, secret Soviet facilities, New Jersey choir schools, and the smoggy streets of São Paulo. Nestor tracks down men and women exploring the hidden science behind ancient breathing practices.

Story
We are living through the most prosperous age in all of human history, yet we are listless, divided, and miserable. Wealth and comfort are unparalleled, but our political landscape is unmoored, and rates of suicide, loneliness, and chronic illness continue to skyrocket. How do we explain the gap between these truths? And how should we respond? For evolutionary biologists Heather Heying and Bret Weinstein, the cause of our troubles is clear: The accelerating rate of change in the modern world has outstripped the capacity of our brains and bodies to adapt.

In Remember, neuroscientist and acclaimed novelist Lisa Genova delves into how memories are made and how we retrieve them. You'll learn whether forgotten memories are temporarily inaccessible or erased forever and why some memories are built to exist for only a few seconds (like a passcode) while others can last a lifetime (your wedding day). You'll come to appreciate the clear distinction between normal forgetting (where you parked your car) and forgetting due to Alzheimer's (that you own a car).

#1 SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER • A hilarious, myth-busting survival guide that explains the weird and wonderful bodily functions that keep us alive—and how to make them work better for longer—from TikTok's favorite doctor, “the go-to expert for a generation” (The Telegraph)

Your body is incredible, but it’s also out to destroy you. Your brain is like an early computer operating system, riddled with bad code, slow to load, and more likely to watch cat memes than go to sleep. You’d be a mess without your skeleton, but it can be a bony cage if you’re tortured by backaches, niggling neck pain, and knee joints that crumble under pressure. And your nose is a design disaster, getting blocked, springing leaks, and growing random tufts of hair.
You are the sum total of a lot of mistakes, trials, and errors, and you have to learn to live with them as best you can. That’s where this book comes in. Here’s everything you need to know to slow the inevitable decay that’s plagued your body from the moment of your birth.
You will:
• Enjoy the most epic and efficient dump of your existence
• Optimize brain efficiency by putting an end to multitasking
• Give your breath a sniff test to assess your health
• Start treating your eye socket dumplings with the respect they deserve
Here’s how to keep all your organs living in peaceful harmony so that you can enjoy a better, longer, healthier life.

Have you ever felt at a loss for an answer when asked: ‘How are you really feeling?” Maybe you can’t quite put your finger on it, but you know something is definitely off. Microaggressions, challenging family relationships, toxic positivity, work and pandemic stress, gaslighting—these are just a few examples of what psychologist Dr. Meg Arroll calls “Tiny T” trauma. These tiny traumas can slowly build up inside of us, and if ignored for too long, can manifest in our lives as high-functioning anxiety, perfectionism, binge eating, insomnia, broken relationships, and a host of other problems.

Story
Today's "machine-learning" systems, trained by data, are so effective that we've invited them to see and hear for us - and to make decisions on our behalf. But alarm bells are ringing. Systems cull résumés until, years later, we discover that they have inherent gender biases. Algorithms decide bail and parole - and appear to assess black and white defendants differently. We can no longer assume that our mortgage application, or even our medical tests, will be seen by human eyes. And autonomous vehicles on our streets can injure or kill.

According to existential psychotherapist Sara Kuburic, it doesn’t have to be so difficult. Really. The answer is found in facing ourselves—whatever version that might be, regardless of whether we like the person we see reflected back to us. It’s about accepting full responsibility for the choices and actions that create our reality.

A fun guide to easy health hacks
Audio books are my favorite form of entertainment since I can wedge them into almost everything else I do so I don't indulge in much social media time. However, a couple years ago I stumbled on "utube shorts" (Audible doesn't like mention of external sites) and found this was the perfect transition for me to move from busy day to sleep mode. Dr. Karan Rajan quickly became a favorite because his medical/health related shorts are designed for the non-medically trained, but presented without condescension. His topics range from the non-life threatening, but painful and embarrassing (like hemorrhoids and ED), to what causes period pain and when is it indicative of bigger issues. He's never vulgar, but quite down-to-earth and often very funny. If you see him on social media, you will know exactly what you are getting with this book - same entertaining, comprehensible style, but expanded to book length and covering how to get the best from your physical existence in this world. I was entertained and educated - there's a win/win in my book!

Super informative and funny!
This is an excellent book! It touches on many aspects of how our bodies function complete with tips on how to make things better. The tips, for the most part are very simple to understand and act upon entire book is filled with humorous moments. it is very easy to read. If you follow this author on any social media, you’ll realize that the narration is actually done by the author. This makes it even better. Actually, I started reading the book on my Kindle and in my mind, I was reading it in his voice. I then switched over to the audio version and sure enough it is his voice! In my opinion, everyone should read/listen to this book at least once.
